Laboratory Scheduling

ORSOFT supplies add-ons for SAP ERP, SAP SCM and SAP S/4HANA on premise for the needs of production logistics.

For a few years, more and more have become an integral part of production logistics:

  • the laboratory and test field planning in the sense of smoothing the utilization,
  • personnel planning in laboratories in terms of allocating available personnel (as the most important resource next to the devices) to inspection lots,
  • supporting communication between laboratories and production by alerting them to schedule changes that lead to conflicts
  • and as a new option the simultaneous production and laboratory planning, especially in the planning of logistics chains.

The potential for solutions that support the fulfillment of these four tasks is obvious:

  • If you reduce the load, you avoid overtime, or even delivery bottlenecks.
  • If you manage opportunities to allocate personnel to inspection lots effectively, you create transparency and increase the effects of group work (involvement of employees in the responsibility for the timely provision of inspection services).
  • It reduces the defects in the production, which arise with changed dates in the production and in the alarms.
  • Consideration of the capacities in the laboratories when creating logistical chains could result in not only testing the production orders for limited capacity, but also the inspection lots for limited capacities, thus avoiding under- and overloading in the laboratory.

The ORSOFT solutions in this field are characterized by the following added value, which are above the state of the art:

  • the laboratory and test field planning in the sense of smoothing the utilization,
  • personnel planning in laboratories in terms of allocating available personnel (as the most important resource next to the devices) to inspection lots,
  • supporting communication between laboratories and production by alerting them to schedule changes that lead to conflicts
  • and as a new option the simultaneous production and laboratory planning, especially in the planning of logistics chains.

The potential for solutions that support the fulfillment of these four tasks is obvious:

  • The solution is based on an Advanced Planning and Scheduling System (APS System) that uses only master and transaction data from the PP, PP-PI, PM and QM modules of SAP ERP, SAP SCM or SAP S/4HANA
  • These data objects are merged and linked in a user interface, simulation and planning interface.
  • In order to avoid that, as usual, only the current real existing SAP inspection lot stock (and therefore only the past) is considered, in the ORSOFT solutions "simulated inspection lots" are created based on the data of the SAP MRP run.
  • Based on the SAP inspection lots and the simulated inspection lots, laboratory planners and laboratory managers can:
    • see the future workload,
    • move dates of the inspection lot to smooth,
    • based on the joint consideration of production planning and laboratory planning objects via dynamic pegging, see if shifts affect basic deadlines (alarms both from the laboratory planner and the production planner),
    • enable employees to assign personnel to inspection lots in a "virtual sample cabinet" and thus to group inspection lots
  • To avoid losing information about rescheduling in simulated inspection lots, the ORSOFT APS system organizes the marriage of simulated inspection lots with real inspection lots whenever the SAP processes lead to a real inspection lot being created.
