Product Lifecycle Planning with ORSOFT Enterprise Workbench

Product Lifecycle Planning with ORSOFT Enterprise Workbench

Planning product life cycles holistically and introduce new products based on optimised key figures

Analyses and demand forecasts are mainly based on historical values. However, what to do if that information is not yet available for planning new objects such as a new products or customers? This fundamental challenge is solved as part of product lifecycle planning through like-modelling.

Enabling product lifecycle planning through like-modelling

Like-modelling allows to simulate historical data for new planning objects. This simulation is done using existing data which can be extracted from another or several other old or similar planning objects whose demand behaviour is the same or similar (e.g. a predecessor product). These assignments are defined by like-profiles on which the demand forecast can be created.

Advantages of product lifecycle planning with ORSOFT

  • Gaining efficiency in new product development through cross-functional collaboration – from research & development, sales, marketing, manufacturing, warehousing, and quality assurance and control
  • Rapid evaluation of product ideas and their value-added potential including the planning of further commercialisation steps
  • Maintaining & considering phase-in/out profiles referring a forecasted introduction as well as the discontinuation of a product
  • Integrated representation of processes: from ideation, requirements management to embedding into the ERP
  • Possibility to create a forecast for the target planning object (combination of different attributes, e.g. material no. or customer no.) based on historical data of one or several different source planning objects by defining like-profiles
  • Easy transfer of product data sets to the central ERP – fully configured for each location, market and region

Splitting forecasting from reporting enables a holistic view of the planning situation

The virtual mapping between the historical data of the source planning objects and the new target planning objects allows to view forecasting and reporting separately. When creating the forecast, the historical data of the source for the target is taken into account. When reporting, however, only real historical data of the new master data is used. This provides planners an up-to-date overview at all times.
